I'm looking to build an access control system for a building using dallas chips ibuttons DS1990A. The system will control the movement of people in and out a building or a certain areas within that building which can be server rooms,Volts etc. through entry restrictions. When the ibutton is pressed onto the socket which has a reader mounted next to the door, it will send a signal to open the door lock and allow /deny access into the building or room depending on whether the person is authorized or not. I intend to use a Pic based sytem to control communication from the reader to the P.C via the serial port. A MAX 232 will be between the Pic and the serial port to transmit the required voltages compatable to the serial port. The PC will act as an administration to add/delete users on to the database at the same time being able to depict a picture of the ibutton owner when the ibutton is pressed against the reader to increase security.
